Tom DiCillo, renowned director, cinematographer and musician, has released a video to the song, “Stars,” which is a tribute to his late wife, Jane. “Stars” is a featured track on DiCillo’s recently released album “Shot Of Blue.”
“Stars” is an emotive journey that ponders the unknown, through which DiCillo conveys the hope that memories can propel us into a new realm. With the video, DiCillo reaches the heart of the viewer blending sinewy black and white video with a touch of inspiring color and sweeping fluid motion.
DiCillo’s style is reminiscent of Roy Orbison with overtones of Link Wray, and his voice captivates in its full-bodied and emotive presentation.
DiCillo, as the director of films like “Johnny Suede,” “Living In Oblivion,” “Box Of Moonlight,” and other features films, is considered one of the early founders of the independent film movement. In addition to his film accolades, DiCillo has amassed an impressive collection of music. He formed, with Will Crewdson and Grog Lisee, the unique group, The Black and Blue Orkestre, which released the album “Hurt Me Tender” in 2014.
The album “Shot Of Blue” is available here.
“‘Stars’ is one of the first songs I wrote for the album ‘Shot Of Blue,'” DiCillo said. “It served as an inspiration for the entire collection of songs. It’s a song about a love lost.
“I wanted something that flowed, with images melting into each other like water,” DiCillo said. “And of course, the stars. We all look at them in wonder and I think in some way we all believe they blink for us.”
