LOS ANGELES – Starting at around 10:30 a.m. on January 7th in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles county witnessed the start of a series of wildfires. Later in the day, another devastating fire broke out near Altadena. The two fires damaged or destroyed more than 16,000 homes and other buildings.
The music community immediately came together and raised funds to help those in need. Zebulon shut down their venue for a few days and made it a collection site for donations. Music nights at various venues such as Permanent Records Roadhouse pledged their proceeds to help the fire victims.
On Wednesday, January 29th, The Bellwether joined this community effort by hosting LA Gives Back: Fire Relief. IHEARTCOMIX, Brownies & Lemonade, Another Planet Entertainment, and Teragram Presents teamed up with Los Angeles’ biggest promoters to put on a night of dancing.

If they so wished, people had up to seven hours to dance to their hearts’ content. The Bellwether had two stages open for the night, the Main Room and Camille’s (on the second floor). At the Main Room, Electric Feels, HEAV3N, Pangea Sound, Emo Nite, A Club Called Rhonda, and Brownies & Lemonade held court with surprise appearances from Madeon and NGHTMRE B2B Netsky. Many of the early bird clubbers headed upstairs to Camille’s where bodies were pressed tight for Lights Down Low and Shrek Rave.
Electric Feels pumped up the initial wave of attendees. HEAV3N’s set was a blast with performances by Ko aka Koala, Miss Tosh, and Love Bailey. Emo Nite packed the floor and had people enthusiastically singing to the emo tunes. Pangea Sound was the friends’ hangout spot. A Club Called Rhonda had the entourage onstage. Closing out the night was Brownies & Lemonade who had people dancing past the midnight hour on a jam-packed floor.
Franki Chan of IHEARTCOMIX provided this media quote about the event: “There’s nothing the IHEARTCOMIX team and I care about more than our Los Angeles community—it’s what made us who we are. Over the past couple weeks, it has been extremely painful to witness so many close friends, family members, and colleagues lose their homes.
“Even more heartbreaking, is knowing the road to recovery will be long,” Chan said. “In moments like these, we believe it’s our duty to channel our best talents to support those in need. LA Gives Back has always been that vehicle for us, so we hope this event will make a meaningful contribution in providing some relief to our community.”
To date, almost $70,000 has been raised by the group for fire relief. Go here to donate.
