London-based singer-songwriter Terry Guy has dropped the emotive and moody track “Ticking” from his upcoming debut album.
“Ticking” is based on Guy’s emotional response to the Grenfell Tower Fire and the London Bridge terrorist attack, but is apropos for feelings from today’s “lockdown” crisis, he said.
“Ticking was written in 2017 when the Grenfell Tower fire and the London Bridge terrorist attack both occurred,” Guy said. “During this time, I remember feeling as though the place where I was born and had grown up was falling apart, but not just for these reasons.
“When I read that during this time, the victims of hate crime in London consisted mostly of Muslims and gay men, this statistical fact, along with the incidents I just mentioned altogether sent me into a period of depression,” he said. “‘Ticking’ was one of many songs which was written as a result of this difficult era for me. It was a profoundly sad time and one which was has never really officially left me.”
Born and raised in southeast London’s Peckham, the singer-songwriter has been composing music since he was 14. Guy is working with producers Franc Cinelli and Julian Chown on material for his forthcoming debut album Cloud Zero In Society, which has been influenced by Sinead O’Connor, PJ Harvey, Martin Grech and Emeli Sande.
The track follows on from the release of his official music video for the heartfelt piano ballad “This Is What It’s Like To Feel Lonely” and his haunting, 2018 single “Brown Eyes.”
