Young The Giant and Tennessee songstress Valerie June will headline the fifth annual Annapolis Songwriters Festival to be held in Maryland’s capital, from Sept. 10 through Sept. 13.
Young The Giant is known for its indie rock sound, thoughtful songwriting, and songs like “My Body,” “Cough Syrup,” “Mind Over Matter,” and “Silvertongue.” The multi-platinum Southern California band continues to grow over the course of six studio albums, including the latest release, “Victory Garden.” Young The Giant will play Sept. 12 at 6 pm on the Calvert Street Stage.
Valerie June, whose distinctive voice and musical talents have attracted awards as well as praise from superstar musicians, has become one of the most important voices in contemporary Americana music.
Blending folk, blues, gospel and soul borne of Appalachian traditions, she has developed a sound that is uniquely her own. Her albums and collaborations have earned praise for their originality and craftsmanship, and her live performances showcase the warmth, depth, and versatility that have made her a favorite with audiences around the world. Bob Dylan named Valerie June one of his favorite contemporary musicians.
Valerie June plays with Judy Blank on Sept. 13 at 8 pm at Maryland Hall.
Additional performers who return this year include local Annapolis singer-songwriter, Dirk Schwenk, East Tennessee group Josiah and The Bonnevilles, and the ever-charismatic Maggie Rose.
