Happy Birthday to Stevie Wonder, born Stevland Hardaway Morris in Saginaw, Michigan, 70 years ago today.
Wonder was born blind because of retrolental fibroplasia. He grew up in Detroit and sang in the church choir and learned to play a range of musical instruments.
Berry Gordy discovered the 11 year old and signed him to the Motown roster. Known as “Little Stevie Wonder” the protege rocked his first hit with the track “Fingertips Pt.2,” and a Number 1 album with The 12-Year-Old Genius (Recorded Live).
In 1966 Wonder put out the legendary song “Uptight (Everything’s Alright),” and “For Once In My Life.”
In the 1970s, Wonder released Talking Book, Music Of My Mind and Songs In The Key Of Life.
