Band of Horses has released its optimistic album Things Are Great, and it’s a remarkably upbeat ode to the past and a look at what might be on the horizon. After all, the world has been rocked by events, but this truly inspiring indie band is doing its part to keep listeners going.
Band of Horses has relied on its southern roots but the indie rock band aspect gelled in 2004 in Seattle. The band has really hit its stride over the last few years and plays beautiful melodies that catch the ear with rocking beats and sweeping musical stories. The latest album, Things Are Great keeps up the positive vibes from the first song, “Warning Signs,” to the 10th track, “Coalinga.”
Band of Horses has undergone personnel changes but Ben Bridwell’s vocals remain steady and true to form. The album features bass guitarist Matt Gentling and guitarist Ian MacDougall. Before the record was released Brett Nash came in to replace MacDougall.

Regardless, Things Are Great represents a significant accomplishment as the band returns to form and creates a cool collection of tracks that capture a range of moods. “Ice Night We’re Having” is a favorite off the album. Set against a galloping beat, the lyrics wistfully ponder that perhaps the best times were the days in which we struggled and dreamed of more.
Band of Horses released their debut album, Everything All the Time, in 2006 and was celebrated by critics. The lead single,”The Funeral,” got radio play and gave the band international recognition. The band’s second album, Cease to Begin, was released in 2007 and featured the tracks “Is There a Ghost” and “No One’s Gonna Love You.”
Band of Horses has continued to develop over the years, blending folk and shoegaze with fuzz and country sounds. And for listeners of this band, it’s true that Things Are Great.
