The Meringues Drop ‘Royalty’ Ahead of Album ‘Pavlova’s Dog’
The Meringues, Kingston, Ontario’s post-punk powerhouse, are thrilled to announce the release of their new single “Royalty.” This track is the advance single from their sophomore album, Pavlova’s Dog, which will be available on September 16th.
At the heart of The Meringues are Amanda Pants and Ted Evans, whose vocal interplay and onstage antics blur the line between playful banter and intense rivalry. Their unique chemistry is supported by the solid rhythm section of Jackson Baird on bass and Alastair Morrison on drums, creating a thrilling atmosphere that threatens to spiral out of control while maintaining a clear artistic vision. The Meringues’ sound is sure to resonate with fans of Pixies, Weezer, The Strokes, The Beaches, Amyl and the Sniffers, July Talk, Wet Leg, Wolf Alice, and PUP.
Amanda Pants explains the new single: “It’s that feeling of having idealized someone, only to discover they didn’t deserve it. Or when you thought you knew someone, but they revealed a different side. This song explores the disorienting feeling of realizing you were wrong about someone or something.”
The recording of “Royalty” took place at multiple locations, including Metalworks Studios in Mississauga, Todd’s Place in Harrowsmith, and Fake Cake Lodge in Kingston. The drum recording was engineered by Camille Comeau, with additional recording by Ted Evans. Mixing was handled by Ian Docherty, while the mastering was expertly completed by Elisa Kady Pangsaeng at CPS Mastering in Vancouver, BC.
The new video for “Royalty” was directed, shot, and edited by Josh Lyon (akaflk productions).

Go Betty Go Drops Track ‘Party At Sea’
Los Angeles-based Go Betty Go is set to release their new EP, Black & Blue, via Wiretap Records on September 13. The EP features six tracks, including two newly recorded live-show fan favorites from early in the band’s career. Black & Blue was produced by Davey Warsop (The Used, Face to Face, Chuck Ragan, Matt Skiba). Pre-save it here.
For a taste of what’s to come, the band is releasing the debut song and video from Black & Blue.
Go Betty Go’s music is driven by Betty Cisneros’ roaring guitar, Nicolette Vilar’s soulful vocals, the momentous urgency of Michelle Rangel’s bass, and Aixa Vilar’stumultuous drumming.
“Black & Blue is an EP that has been a long time in the making,” said Nicolette. “We started working on these songs as soon as the pandemic broke out but had to pause like everyone else in the world at that time. As soon as it was clear to get back together and work in the studio, we received Betty’s Stage 4 cancer diagnosis in May 2022, which hit us all hard. But from that day forward, we decided we would stand strong and do everything in our power to help Betty fight and overcome cancer.
“It even sparked old ideas that we finally brought to the light of day. Two of the songs, “City Lights” and “Am I To Blame,” were written years ago when Emily Wynne-Hughes, aka Emily Valentine, was in the band. We have a two-decade-long history, but there was a moment when I quit the band, and Emily stepped in to take the reins. I’ve been back for many years, but this EP brought the band’s history full circle as we invited Emily to come back and rework some of those old original songs that had never been released.”

Pete Yorn Guests on Cardboard Sessions
Pete Yorn as the latest artist to showcase his talent on the cardboard instruments. Today, the first of a two-part episode features Pete performing “Real Good Love”, the second single off Pete’s latest album The Hard Way. This will be followed by “Calm Down” out next Wednesday, Aug. 28.
“To come in and play on instruments that I’ve never played on before, and yes, they’re cardboard, but they have such a feel” states Pete. “The song “Real Good Love” we did, it just kinda came together almost magically.” It’s that sentiment that makes Cardboard Sessions so special and Pete’s episode is no exception. His music, and this session, is a vibe. It’s honest and organic and comes together, well, magically.

Lisa Morales and Jojo Garza of Los Lonely Boys Drop ‘Have It All’
“Traveling across the country, I found myself lying awake at night, thinking about how homelessness is so out of control,” said Lisa Morales about her new single “Have It All,” from her fourth solo album Sonora which will be released on September 13, 2024 via Luna Records.
The single “Have It All,” co-written with collaborator and bassist Jojo Garza of Los Lonely Boys, explores the universal topic, “I started talking about how much I hated all the homelessness across the country and started singing ‘Mira el Mundo’ to his melody.”
With a storied performance history and a deep catalog spanning rock, country, folk, and Americana, the collaboration was easy to navigate. “Jojo and I are good friends and greatly respect one another musically—so it was easy to write together,” she explains. “Jojo came with the intro guitar riff and part of the melody— and we just took off from there.”
“It was a riff idea I had created not long before the session,” Jojo said. “It was not a coincidence that I’d be writing with Lisa the following week…I feel like it was meant for her. Being at Sonic Ranch and working on it together was the perfect setting for it all to come together, and when you listen to it, it’s clear that it’s a song that represents who she is musically. Lisa is a special and unique person, and it’s a very cool tune!”
