Father John Misty may be known for his keen sense of humor, but he is serious about his contribution to helping out his fellow musician.
The first live album for Misty, also known as Josh Tillman, is called Off-Key in Hamburg, and is available on Bandcamp. All of the money from the album will be donated to the new MusiCares Covid-19 Fund.
Off-Key in Hamburg was recorded Live at the Hamburg Elbphilharmonieon on August 8, 2019 with the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt.
The Recording Academy’s newly created MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund is expected to provide assistance to music industry people whose lives are devastated now from the cancellation of multitudes of live music events.
The fund is administered through the charity arm of the Recording Academy known as MusiCares. The fund is expected to support those in the music community with the greatest need. It is unknown how the charity determines those in the greatest need.
While it raises hundreds of millions at its event honoring a particular superstar musician each year, MusiCares generally gives musicians it determines to be in need one month’s rent.
Three of Father John Misty’s previous albums have been nominated for a GRAMMY, including Pure Comedy, which won Best Recording Package in 2018.
