LOS ANGELES – The staffers of US Rocker have been honored with eight finalist designations in the National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Awards, it was announced. US Rocker covers music and entertainment across the United States and beyond.

The National Arts and Entertainment Awards gala, presented by the Los Angeles Press Club, takes place Dec. 7 at the Biltmore Millennium in downtown Los Angeles. Headline honorees at the event this year are Marlee Matlin, Larry Mantle and Seth and Lauren Miller Rogen.

US Rocker, which has been honored with awards in its previous incarnation as California Rocker, expanded four years ago to meet demand to cover music and entertainment across the United States. The online publication reports on and photographs all genres of up-and-coming and legacy musicians and entertainers.

For this year’s National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Awards, US Rocker captured four of five finalist spots in the Action Photo category with work by editor Donna Balancia, for her Aloe Blacc image; San Diego-based photographer and reviewer Sylvia Garcia Borgo for her Green Day/ Billie Joe Armstrong image, Notes From Vivace for the Caravan Palace image; and Alyson Camus for her image of Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker.

In addition to her action photo honor, Camus, an extraordinary reviewer and photographer, also got a Feature Photo finalist designation for her St. Vincent image and an Individual Blog finalist spot for her Morrissey coverage.

Barry Levine, author and former news editor based in New York City, is a finalist in the commentary category for his review of beloved veteran rocker George Thorogood & the Destroyers.

US Rocker creative director Mimi secured a finalist spot in the Animation category for a separate project, “94.7 The Grave,” just in time for Halloween!

US Rocker could not exist without the work of the entire team of contributors, including photographers Paul McAlpine, Silvia Paveri, Melanie Smith and James Balboni; reviewers Ava Liversidge, Rick Schindler, “Ames” Flames, Harriet Kaplan, John Daly and the late and very much missed reviewer Dan MacIntosh and photographer Luis Moreno. A special thank you goes to rock photographer extraordinaire, Heather Harris, who has contributed her professionalism, mentorship, and friendship to the editors and the team.
