Olivia Newton-John’s Motorcycle Jacket from ‘Grease’ to Ride the Auction Block

Olivia Newton-John’s famous black leather jacket from the movie “Grease” will be center stage once again, as her iconic movie wardrobe goes on the auction block in December.

The motorcycle jacket and other wardrobe from Olivia’s role as Sandy in the Paramount Pictures hit will be among the items for sale during “Julien’s Auctions and TCM Present: A Week of Hollywood Legends | Property from the Estate of Olivia Newton-John.” The celebration takes place Tuesday, Dec. 10th, Wednesday, Dec. 11th, Thursday, Dec. 12th and Friday, Dec. 13th at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills and online at Julien’s Auctions.

A portion of the auction proceeds will benefit The Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund that was founded by Olivia Newton-John and her husband, John Easterling.

A collection of more than 400 treasures of the icon of music and film representing her illustrious record-breaking career as one of the best-selling musical artists of all time who has sold 100 million records worldwide and the box office Hollywood film star will hit the auction stage.

Featured are some of ONJ’s screen worn costumes, designer gowns, prestigious music awards, jewelry, fine art, personal items and home décor from her Santa Ynez ranch estate and historic memorabilia celebrating the beloved pop culture phenomenon’s extraordinary career – that includes her starring role in “Grease,” one of the most successful Hollywood films and soundtracks of all time – and the four-time Grammy award-winning singer’s recordings of some of the biggest pop singles of the 20th Century.

Making an appearance this December will be one of Hollywood’s most famous leather jackets of all time – Newton-John’s black leather motorcycle jacket (estimate: $80,000-$100,000) from the 1978 blockbuster musical film. Worn in her iconic role as Sandy Olsson in the film’s finale number of “You’re the One That I Want,” Newton-John surprises Danny (John Travolta) with her transformation as a demure cheerleader to a sexy greaser girl uttering the now iconic line “Tell me about it stud” and making cinematic history.

Other jackets on offer include Newton-John’s rhinestone-stud motorcycle jacket emblazoned with “Olivia” on the back custom made by designer Brian Rennie (estimate: $1,000-$2,000); a bejeweled silver leather motorcycle jacket (estimate: $800-$1,200);and an army green casual jacket worn in her role as her “Debbie Wylder” from the romantic cult classic film Two of a Kind that reunited her with Grease co-star John Travolta (estimate: $400-$600).

Also for “Grease” fans, a “Sweet Sandy” outfit consisting of a yellow pleated skirt (photo right), a white long-sleeved blouse, a yellow sweater, and a wide white belt worn by the star at the Meet N’ Grease Sing-a-Long special event in Florida that she and John Travolta participated in will also be offered (estimate: $600-$800).

A treasure trove of Newton-John’s music awards, instruments, memorabilia and lyrics will be spotlighted including: her custom-painted turquoise blue Steinway model S baby grand piano with a matching painted bench seat topped with faux leopard-print upholstery that was prominently displayed in the center of the star’s Santa Ynez ranch home for many years (estimate: $8,000-$10,000).
