Dave Grohl, Lita Ford and members of Anthrax rocked the Observatory for Dimebash, celebrating the life of “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott last week at The Observatory in Santa Ana.
Abbott is the late co-founder and guitarist of Pantera and Damageplan.
The sold-out all-star jam honored Abbott and also featured performances by Cypress Hill’s Sen Dog, members of In This Moment, Chris Broderick, BMX Legend Rick Thorne, Sebastian Bach and others.
Abbott was honored with songs played by King’s X, Armored Saint, Prong, Bad Wolves, Butcher Babies, Crowbar, Hellyeah, KYNG, Lamb of God, Sepultura, Stone Sour, led by Nick Bowcott musical director and stage manager Jessica Hill.
Also playing for Abbott were Mike Inez of Alice In Chains, Lzzy Hale and Joe Hottinger of Halestorm and Chad Kroeger of Nickelback. Rita Haney, Abbott’s longtime partner, produced the event.
The all stars played more than 30 songs, including Pantera classics “Mouth For War,” “Cemetery Gates,” “I’m Broken,” “Cowboys From Hell,” and “Walk,” along with various rock and metal classics such as “Ace of Spades,” and “Sweating Bullets.”
KNAC’s DJ Will was spinning the discs and Grohl served up his Backbeat BBQ after the show.
