‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘Fleabag’ Take Top Honors at 2019 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles

By DONNA BALANCIA

“Game of Thrones” and “Fleabag” nabbed numerous wins at the 2019 Emmy Awards Sunday night at the Microsoft Theater in Downtown Los Angeles.

“Game of Thrones” (HBO) won the Outstanding Drama trophy for the fourth time, in its last season. Peter Dinklage also took his fourth Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series during a colorful Emmy presentation.

“Fleabag” won four statuettes with Outstanding Writing, Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Director. Star and creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge won Outstanding Actress in a Comedy.

“This is getting ridiculous,” said Waller-Bridge upon accepting the Outstanding Comedy Series win. “‘Fleabag’ started as a one-woman show in Edenborough in 2014.”

Halsey hit a home run performing Cindy Lauper’s “Time After Time” as the In Memorium tribute as images of what seemed to be a longer and more familiar list of stars than ever before. The memorium honored those who passed this year including Peter Fonda, Valerie Harper, Luke Perry, Arte Johnson, Tim Conway, Rutger Hauer, Penny Marshall and Peggy Lipton.

Billy Porter won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
