After 10 years since its conception, the collaborative EP from Big Freedia and SOPHIE arrives. “Released At Last” is a 3-song snapshot of the creative magic that is conjured up when two genre-redefining artists come together.
Alongside past singles like “Go Down,” the new EP features an ethereal collaboration with LA pop trio MUNA (“Let Me See Ya”) – a multi-textured tapestry of the trio of artists’ respective talents.
“This song was fire when SOPHIE & I worked on it ten years ago,” Big Freedia said about “Let Me See Ya.” “And now to have MUNA on it, who also are repping for our community so brilliantly… it’s really a dream.”
Birthed from a recording session at SOPHIE’s Los Angeles home studio in 2016 and mostly completed in a single afternoon, “Released At Last” transports Freedia and her New Orleans-born bounce to SOPHIE’s world of avant-garde pop. The final collection is a look at what is possible within the electronic music genre that is primed and ready for summertime playlist adds and late night club play.
“Recording with SOPHIE is something I hold even closer to my heart now, especially after her passing,” said Freedia. “She was an artist who showed the world that living boldly is your greatest power. With this EP, I want to show the world how loved she was and still is!”
