Doctor Striker Makes House Call at The Redwood Bar Tonight

By JOHN DALY

Doctor Striker, the bizarre electro-punk band from San Francisco hits the Redwood stage tonight opening for Temple Lake and The Buzzz.

Led by the entertaining Paul Richter, Doctor Striker shocks the fans with songs of resistance, tight music and a wild, in-your-face act.  Doctor Striker has caused a stir with the act mainly for controversial songs and Richter’s American flag-covered, barely there, “stripped-down” act.

We sat down for a chat with the doctor himself.

A Q and A with Doctor Striker

CR: How did you think of the character Doctor Striker?

DS: Everybody in my family is a doctor. I’m the youngest.  My mom, my dad, my sister, my brother. I was at my brother’s graduation from Medical School and all my family and family friends asked when I’ll become a doctor.  I said, “I’m already a doctor, Doctor Striker.”

CR: What are you in favor of and rallying against with your band?

DS: I want an all-inclusive community where everybody has equality of opportunity, but not equality of outcome.

‘Feelings’ Make the Music for Doctor Striker

CR:  How are you inspired to write the music? Does the music come to you or do you take on a subject and write around it?

DS:  I think of how I’m feeling.  I come up with a phrase to descibe it.  I think of a short 2 bar musical hook to describe it.  That’s the chorus.  The rest is exposition.  The guitar solo is the climax without words.

CR:  What are plans for recording and touring?

DS:  We’re finishing mixing our album.  We’re going to release a music video for every song.  It’ll be weird and rad.

Doctor Striker takes the stage at 9:30 p.m.
