Cage The Elephant and Iggy Pop have teamed on a rerelease of “Broken Boy” in a new version that highlights Iggy’s bass-heavy vocals.
Seems Iggy Pop may never get over being a “Broken Boy,” as going back as far as the 1973 classic “Search and Destroy” off Raw Power he referred to himself as “The World’s Forgotten Boy.”
But the 72-year-old Pop is no longer a boy, nor is he forgotten. The Recording Academy actually did something right by him, recently bestowing a Lifetime Achievement Award on the revered progenitor of punk.
He’s also good at teaming with hot young bands; Watch him with Sum 41 at our favorite Miami punk club, Churchill’s: Iggy Pop with Sum 41.
Cage The Elephant has emerged as one of the best rock bands out there. The guys have been winning accolades and droves of fans over the years and won a Best Rock Album statuette at the GRAMMYs last Sunday.

In the new version of “Broken Boy,” originally released on Cage The Elephant’s fifth studio album Social Cues, Iggy contributes a verse and backing vocals.
“Cage is a super high energy outfit, living the rock dream, so for a couple of fun minutes I was one of the boys,” Iggy said. “Sounds pretty wicked to me.”

Iggy Pop’s latest album is Free.
“He’s such a pioneer in so many fields: lyrically, culturally, poetically, visually, musically, and stylistically,” Matt Shultz said of Iggy. “Only a couple times in your life do you have the opportunity to share a moment with a visionary and beautiful human as he is. I’m grateful and blown away to have experienced and witnessed, not just his creativity, but also his kindness, humility, and humanness first hand. Such a testimony to the power of love.”
The band was recently on Austin City Limits.
