Rickie Lee Jones showed the style that earned her accolades in launching the Marina del Rey Summer Concerts series. The beloved musician drew a deep field of blanket-lounging fans to Burton Chace Park on Saturday night.
On a clear summer night, Jones played a range of jazzy bebop style tunes and kept the crowd enthralled with a voice that is still as youthful as when she recorded the 1979 hit “Chuck E’s In Love.” She’s spunky and funky and fun. She appeared to be truly enjoying herself during her upbeat performance.
Before launching into the tune “Young Blood,” she reminisced about her days living near the Marina.
“I wrote this song when I was living in Venice imagining what it would be like to live in Hollywood which was so far away,” she recalled. “Sunset and Alvarado where the Burrito King was. What is that life like?”
