Australia-based Pond has a lot to say about environmental and cultural stewardship and are doing so through the video “Daisy” out today and the new album, Tasmania due March 1.
The new work has strong environmental and anti-colonial themes that run throughout. The collection clearly voices that Americans are not the only ones conflicted about population growth without encroachment. The album is basically about “retreating to Tasmania before we’re all screwed,” Pond said.
‘Daisy’ Video Shot on Aboriginal Lands
The band has dropped the lead single and music video for “Daisy,” directed by Jesse Taylor Smith and shot on Kulin and Nyoongar Nations Aboriginal lands in Australia. The light-sounding alt-pop single portrays Nick Allbrook and bandmates — oddly sans Jay Watson — paying tribute to the Earth and the land. But Allbrook and band are trying to get across the point that planet-dwellers need to be better caretakers.
The album is available for pre-order.

The Perth-based band’s eighth studio album Tasmania (Interscope) is considered a “sister album” to 2017’s The Weather. Tasmania was produced and mixed by Pond and Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, and was recorded in Fremantle, Western Australia.
Pond Toured U.S. in 2018, New Dates Ahead
Pond is Allbrook, Watson, Shiny Joe Ryan, Jamie Terry and Jamie Ireland. They had a few good jaunts through the U.S. last year, as did their counterparts Tame Impala and Watson’s GUM.
At last year’s Desert Daze, Tame Impala’s set was called after three songs on account of inclement weather. Tame Impala will headline Coachella this year along with Childish Gambino and Ariana Grande.
