Cal Jam is known as a celebration of everything Foo Fighters, but this year belonged exclusively to Nirvana and Joan Jett.

The much-rumored Nirvana reunion took place Saturday night at the Glen Helen Amphitheater in San Bernardino, Calif., with front people Jett and Deer Tick’s John McCauley, whose performances honored the legendary group’s late frontman Kurt Cobain. McCauley’s gruff and rock-infused vocals were eerily reminiscent of Cobain’s work.

Dave Grohl resumed his spot behind the drum kit, and the band, featuring Kris Novoselic and Pat Smear, ripped through selections including “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “Breed” and “In Bloom.”

Jett had famously fronted Nirvana when the grunge rockers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.

More to come.
