Freshen Up Tour: Paul McCartney tells Howard Stern John Broke Up The Beatles

McCartney Adds New Dates to Tour

By JOHN DALY

Paul McCartney has added new U.S. dates to his tour and has been executing an enthusiastic talk show circuit promoting his new album Egypt Station.

McCartney gave New York “shock jock” Howard Stern of SiriusXM a shock of his own, revealing that despite the longstanding rumors to the contrary, it was actually John Lennon who broke up The Beatles.

Stern said the public was under the misconception that it was McCartney who broke up the legendary foursome and suggested Lennon tried to “pin” the blame on McCartney.

“I don’t think anyone tried to pin it on anyone, it just came out that way,” McCartney told Stern. (See video) “That’s a long story. But there was a meeting where John came in and said ‘Hey guys I’m leaving the group.’ He’d found Yoko.”

Paul McCartney: ‘John Loved Strong Women’

Paul said, “John loved strong women, his mother had been a strong woman, his auntie who brought him up was a strong woman.

“And bless her but his first wife, she once said to me ‘All I want is a guy who wants pipe and slippers, stay home,” he recalled to Stern. “I thought, ‘That’s not John.’ John had met up with Yoko, and even though we thought ‘God a bit intrusive,’ she was to sit in on the recording sessions, we’d never had anything like that. But looking back on it, the guy was totally in love with her and you’ve just got to respect that and we did, and I do.”

McCartney interviewed with the prolific Jarvis Cocker and also pulled off a few wild gags with Jimmy Fallon and James Corden.
