LOS ANGELES – ‘BOOM: A Film About the Sonics’ is set to receive its theatrical release in September 2024. To kick off the run of the film, there will be a special screening in Los Angeles, followed by an afterparty show.

“BOOM,” is written and directed by Jordan Albertsen, distributed by The Forge and produced by Scratch Vinyl Films. The picture was a hit in the indie festival world, and introduced a new audience to The Sonics, considered one of the most influential bands in music.

Hailing from Tacoma, Washington, The Sonics’ 1965 debut Here Come The Sonics predated the fever of punk and pushed Rock N Roll into new places. The film features commentary from Kim Thayil of Soundgarden, Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, Nancy Wilson of Heart, Mark Arm of Mudhoney, and more.

“The Sonics represent more than just a band to me,” said film writer-director Jordan Albertson. “They were my first obsession, rocking harder and faster than anything I’d heard. And they were from the 60s! The music was dangerous. Sexy. This was punk rock before punk rock.”

In the film, all original members–Larry Parypa (guitar), Andy Parypa (bass), Rob Lind (saxophone, harmonica), Bobby Bennett (drums), and Jerry Roslie (vocals)–explore how they rose from the Pacific Northwest to became a worldwide phenomenon, still popular today.
