Spirit In The Room is one of those local bands that should be on a stage in a big arena opening for a huge international act like U2.
These hardcore-punkers have it all. Good music, good looks and a wild, haunting act that blends the macho of Trent Reznor with the frightening dark power of Marilyn Manson. Spirit In The Room’s show Wednesday at The Satellite brought out an audience that likes the band’s dark side.

Dennis Sanders and Spirit In The Room
Frontman Dennis Sanders is a captivating singer and performer. In his dapper 1940s gangster-style suit, he leaps all over the stage with furious style, hurling words at his faithful audience. He’s equally comfortable at synth and keys as he is at percussion. The guys take equal time in the spotlight. Darren Howard is a masterful bass player and Kyle Nadeau is an interactive and entertaining guitarist.
Howard and the lean Nadeau are showmen as well, with Howard giving the audience the steely-eyed stare and Nadeau contorting for the crowd, putting the guitar above his head, flipping his floor-length skirt and falling to the ground, all the while still playing.
Spirit In The Room’s music dips and curves, starting out quietly subversive and roaring to raging power, with Sanders dropping to his knees forcefully delivering his messages of fear, love and life. The set list contains the band’s songs “Sunset,” which opens with a frightening telephone call, “Virtue,” “New Romo,” “Click,” “Fever,” “Locked,” “Headlights” and “Maimed.”
Also on the bill were Blood Candy, the all-female hard rockers, and Dominator, both of which kept right along with the hardcore-punk theme.
