Greg Dulli has released “It Falls Apart,” the second single from his first solo album Random Desire.
Dulli, the frontman of The Afghan Whigs will put out the new album February 21 (Royal Cream/BMG). He is embarking on a major European and U.S. tour in support of the new record. The tour wraps at The Palace in Los Angeles on May 28.
“It Falls Apart” encompasses a cool emotion, with strong piano, driving drums and synth with a hopeful hook. There is a New Order-meets-David Bowie sound to the track and Dulli captures the imagination with his urgent, whispery vocals.
Dulli said his inspiration on Random Desire were the legends Prince and Todd Rundgren. While most of the album was written in Silverlake, California, the recording was done in Joshua Tree.
Random Desire features the Whigs’ guitarist Jon Skibic, multi-instrumentalist Rick G. Nelson, Mathias Schneeberger (Twilight Singers), pedal steel wizard, upright bassist, and physician Stephen Patt, M.D., guitarist Mark McGuire (Emeralds) and drummer Jon Theodore (Queens of the Stone Age, The Mars Volta).
