Ford Madox Ford gave an impromptu headline performance Sunday at Joe’s Great American Bar to celebrate Emil Edinger’s 43rd birthday.
The show, presented by Jonny Whiteside’s The Messaround, encompassed a good selection of acts with Tracy Dawn, Brian Whelan, and Greg & The Gallows. If you wanted to see Americana Country-style bands and cut a rug, it was the right place to be.
Double the Fun With Two Gigs Sunday
It was the first time Ford Madox Ford played a gig in a while, and so of course the band had to play two gigs, one at a radio station earlier in the day.
Edinger, a beloved figure in the country punk scene was celebrated at Joe’s Great American Bar. Edinger is the leader of the band, Double E And Bad Business. They’ll be releasing a record in late 2018, produced by Johnny Witmer. Emil turned 43 and dynamo fiancee Asia Muka gave permission to reveal his digits.
Asia Muka, a powerhouse of a promoter, has been a great asset to the music community, and continually makes outreach on behalf of musicians. This kind person, who has a galactic appearance, is someone who is greatly appreciated in the music scene for all her advocacy on behalf of artists.
Ford Madox Ford The band keeps getting tighter and tighter and apparently have a stylist budget given Kinman’s sparkly gold fingernails.
The band is comprised of Kinman on guitar and vocals, Dewey Peek on guitar, S Scott Aguero on drums and Matt Littell on bass.
The Carlsbad Crew and Houston Guillotines
Also in the house were Mike Spent of The Spent Idols, whom Kinman referred to as one of the rare fellow Carlsbad punks, and Houston-based band, The Guillotines. Terry Thomas said it looks like he’s here to stay after a stint on the East Coast. Johnny Witmer is prepping to tour Europe with Crazy Squeeze and said he had a good time producing Emil’s record. HIs own Crazy Squeeze record Savior Of The Streets is out now.
Tony Kinman Produced ‘This American Blues’
Someone remarked that Tony Kinman, who passed away several months ago from cancer, would have enjoyed the event.
Lisa Kinman, Chip’s wife started a Go Fund Me page for Tony. It reads: “One of the last things Tony said to Chip was, ‘If anyone asks you, “What song would Tony like to be remembered by,” tell them ‘Way to Go.’
“So pull up Cowboy Nation, give it a listen, and remember sweet Tony. And if you’re moved to help fulfill his last wishes, help us take care of his beloved wife, Kristie. Please contribute to the Tony Kinman Go Fund Me page.”
