Ed O’Brien thrilled the crowd at his intimate Masonic Lodge performance the other night. He’s got a new album that will be released April 17, called Earth.

As expected, tickets to O’Brien’s Los Angeles show last Thursday sold out in minutes. His talents have been revered for almost three decades as one of the principal guitarists for Radiohead.

Longtime fans came out to support O’Brien’s solo work, experiencing it in a live setting with the intent to be part of the small group of music listeners who can say they were there for his first solo tour.

O’Brien’s show was clearly an opportunity for the artist to showcase his new work. However, the night had a much more of a personal feel. O’Brien took the time to dedicate several songs to friends and family members.

O’Brien said his grandmother, who recently passed away, would listen to “Santa Teresa,” at the night’s end, and he said “… it’s a beautiful thing when your 103-year-old granny digs what you’re doing.”

Other crowd favorites from the night: The beautifully expressed “Brasil,” the scorching “Olympik,” and the funky, soulful Labi Siffre cover of “I Got The.”

Ever the gentleman, O’Brien did not forget to sincerely express his gratitude to his fans and fans reciprocated the love. O’Brien, touring as EOB, will play major festivals across Europe. In late July he returns to the U.S. as one of the main acts at the Newport Folk Festival.
