Jesika Von Rabbit has created a musical winter fantasy with her video for the classic Elvis Presley track “Blue Christmas.”

The video for Von Rabbit’s version of “Blue Christmas” is an adventure all on its own and premieres here at California Rocker.

Directed by Jessica Janos, the video features everyone from a shady but well-known Santa and a snowflake kid, to a Nehru-jacketed 1960s hipster with love beads. This modern video for “Blue Christmas” paints quite a different picture than that portrayed by a forlorn Elvis singing of unrequited love at the holidays in 1957.

Von Rabbit takes “Blue Christmas,” originally written by Billy Hayes and Jay W. Johnson for the country set, adds some synthesizers and an electronic beat and voila!  Von Rabbit produces a trademarked cover. Elvis, dressed in his later-years garb would fit right in with this other-worldly Von Rabbit video by Janos.

With the blue lighting and cool characters drifting in and out of the video, it’s more like “Alice in Wonderland” than it is a Christmas adventure. The song is not a cheery one. But the Von Rabbit video takes it one step further, proving it unlikely anyone would want to be trapped inside this blue blue blue purgatory.

The style is so unique, it’s easy to see that Von Rabbit has put the special earmarks on this short film, making it entirely hers. There’s even a little rap session at the bridge, with reminders of Christmas past and visions for those yet to come.
