Robert Smith: ‘The Best Day of the Summer’

The Cure rocked more than 20,000 concert-goers at The Rose Bowl during their “Cure-curated” festival Pasadena Daydream, an event that will long be remembered.

The festival, held on the last day of August, touted a curated performer list of The Cure’s friends and favorite bands including Pixies, Deftones, Sad Twilight, Mogwai and Joy Formidable.

But there was no doubt who got most of the attention of the estimated 20,000 people who attended.

“Robert Smith was so happy, I’ve never seen him happy and dancing before,” said concert-goer Bob who came from Las Vegas to the festival which included Smith’s friends and specially selected bands.

The set list was a Cure fan’s dream, starting with “Plainsong,” going into “Pictures of You,” “A Forest,” and a 30-minute, seven-song encore including “Lullaby,” “Why Can’t I Be You,” and “Boys Don’t Cry.”

In a Los Angeles summer that hosted “Bucket List” concerts with Paul McCartney at Dodger Stadium and The Rolling Stones at the Rose Bowl, Smith and The Cure in many regards outshined them all.

“I really got a chance to enjoy them, this was amazing and I will never forget this day,” said Marla from San Diego. Her sentiments echoed those of the thousands of fans, young and old.

Deftones brought their own special group of fans. More to come.
