Alice Merton’s Debut Album, ‘Mint’ Gets January Release
“Why So Serious,” is from her debut album ‘Mint’ out in January 2019 via Mom + Pop Music. Merton’s 2016 hit single “No Roots,” was written about constantly moving homes as a child.
Merton said she would perform and write music that she only has a passion for and to be an artist she’s proud of and wants to keep an Independent way of thinking.
She put her money where her mouth is and started Paper Plane Records Int. with her best friend and manager Paul Grauwinkel.
Merton and Rebscher Co-Write
Written by Merton and co-writer/producer Nicolas Rebscher, the “Why So Serious” single is a song that brings positive light into the “serious” world we live in.
With Alice’s positive outlook on life she sings “Why so serious, Why we so serious, can someone please tell me.”
Then, she realized she just needs to have fun with it all.
How To Prepare to Follow Up a Mega-Hit
“I was a little upset that everyone would ask if the next song would be as successful as ‘No Roots,'” Merton said. “And then I thought, ‘Screw this! I’m happy, I have the time of my life, so: Why so serious?’”
Although sticking to Alice’s electric beats-centric style the song brings a pop feel to the new work.
