LOS ANGELES — The Big Ol’ Nasty Getdown is gearing up for its next chapter. The renowned funk, soul, and rock collective is working on a new LP slated for release later this year, marking the eighth release from the ever-evolving musical project.
The upcoming LP will begin rolling out in the coming months with a series of song releases, offering the first glimpse into the latest chapter of the collective’s boundary-pushing collaborations.
The new recordings feature contributors including Angelo Moore (Fishbone), Stephen Perkins (Jane’s Addiction), Jack Irons (Red Hot Chili Peppers/Pearl Jam), Lee Oskar (War), Ryan Martinie (Mudvayne), Tim Stewart & Tosh the Drummer (Lady Gaga) and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), along with musicians connected to Toto, Mother’s Finest, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Umphrey’s McGee, Sexual Chocolate, and Suicidal Tendencies, among many others.

The Big Ol’ Nasty Getdown is the brainchild of bassist and producer John Heintz, whose original vision was to capture the spontaneous chemistry of jam sessions and extend it beyond the stage into the recording studio.
Heintz believed the same magic that occurs when musicians improvise together live could be harnessed in studio settings to create extraordinary collaborative recordings. That philosophy gave rise to The Big Ol’ Nasty Getdown, a musical collective that now includes hundreds of artists spanning genres, generations, and geographic boundaries.
Most recently, The Big Ol’ Nasty Getdown Volume 3 arrived in 2025.
A true DIY success story in a major-label world, The Big Ol’ Nasty Getdown is a living example of the infinite possibilities of collaboration, bringing together artists from across generations and genres to celebrate the unifying spirit of music and artistic expression.
