Don Was and the Pan-Detroit Ensemble have released a compelling rendition of The Grateful Dead’s “Crazy Fingers.”
The newly released recording is off Don Was And The Pan-Detroit Ensemble’s new album “Live Dispatch Vol. 1: Blues For Allah ’26,” out Nov. 20 via Verve.
Vocalist Steffanie Christi’an delivers a soul-grabbing performance that emotionally and tenderly interprets The Dead’s legendary classic work, “Crazy Fingers.” Christi’an takes the melody and lyrics of “Crazy Fingers” to a whole new level and presents a nuanced and powerful performance.
The track “Crazy Fingers” was written by Jerry Garcia, with lyrics by Robert Hunter and was released on the “Blues For Allah” album in 1975.
The new Don Was album honors The Grateful Dead and commemorates with affection the relationship between Was and Bob Weir. Beyond friendship, Was shared a stage with Weir as part of the Wolf Brothers.
