Cage The Elephant Rides a Hot Streak, Drops Throwback Video for ‘Social Cues’

Cage The Elephant Social Cues - Video Out

By JOHN DALY

UPDATED: Cage The Elephant, one of the hottest bands of the decade, has released a new music video for “Social Cues,” directed by lead singer Matt Shultz.

The throwback-style video brings back a 1970s analog feel and uses psychedelic colors and intentional drop-ins to create a home-made video look.

Editing and digital effects were done by Michael Rees, analog effects by Citizen Kane Wayne. Directors of photography are Landon Yost and Josh Charow.

Cage The Elephant is expected to join Instagram Live to debut a series of deconstructed videos showing the evolution of the “Social Cues” music video. The band encouraged fans to text questions to 615-235-5440 and started responding via instagram after noon on Thursday.

The band’s performance was taped at Adult Swim’s FishCenter Live in Atlanta and additional footage was shot at Goodlettsville, Tenn. Antique Mall and other locations.

“The past couple of years have been turbulent,” Schultz said during a live Instagram broadcast. “Some of us have lost family members and friends which led to different truamas that manifested in different actions in our lives and as we were launching the record two of our best friends have passed away in a short amount of time and it was really hard for us. We did this performance on Adult Swim which captures the moment.”

“Social Cues” is the ninth No. 1 song on the Alternative Radio chart for Cage The Elephant, following their first single “Ready To Let Go” off the latest record.
