Joan Baez, who is promoting her new album Whistle Down The Wind, has extended her Fare Thee Well Tour into 2019. Fare Thee Well is expected to be her last formal extended concert tour.
In addition to touring, Baez has been overseeing an artistic project that has yielded several short films that accompany songs on her new album. Whistle Down The Wind is Baez’ first album since Day After Tomorrow was released in 2008.

Whistle Down The Wind was produced by three-time Grammy Award-winner Joe Henry (Carolina Chocolate Drops, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Solomon Burke, Bonnie Raitt, Allen Toussaint, and others). Henry’s composition “Civil War” delves into how fighting can bring down society.
Henry and Baez recorded Whistle Down The Wind in Los Angeles in 10 days, with a core band including John Smith and Mark Goldenberg on acoustic guitars; Greg Leisz on acoustic guitar, pedal steel, mandolin, and Weissenborn; Tyler Chester and Patrick Warren on keyboards; bassist David Piltch; and drummer Jay Bellerose.
“We both work fast and were musically on the same wavelength,” Baez said of her teamwork with Henry. “I work best with musicians who are as willing as I am to wing it, and he assembled a group of players who did just that.”
