Want to experience real Classic Rock?
The Hailers, the fun and funky Celtic group, and Play With Fire, the high-energy classic-style rock band, will play Fais Do-Do tonight.
It’s a rare chance to see two rockin’ bands together on the same night. Tickets are $10 at the door.
And like the classic ’80s that brought you the Rubik’s Cube, Madonna and checkerboard sneakers, Fais Do-Do, the theatre venue, is also undergoing a rebirth. Fais Do-Do is located at 5257 W. Adams Blvd.
Play With Fire at Fais Do-Do
Play With Fire is a band on a mission. The group is centered around the talented Mark McKinniss whose voice and keyboards power the group. He’s the real deal, having fronted some fun bands in the colorful pre-millennium days.
“We play good time classic rock and roll that people can dance to, and that’s something you don’t get to hear every day,” McKinniss said.
Play With Fire’s McKinniss has a great voice — a cross between Michael McDonald of The Doobie Brothers and all the Bee Gees rolled into one — check him out. He’s backed up by Tommy Tequila on guitar and vocals, Matt Bragg on bass, and drummer Billy DiBlasi. On background vocals are Kaylie, Carol Casey and Randi Douglas.
“We’ve all played together for years mostly in cover bands and we love the classic rock genre,” McKinniss said. “Play With Fire does mostly originals, though. Our style is classic rock and I believe classic rock is making a comeback.”
When Play With Fire hits the stage, the whole room gets up to dance. It’s a change of pace from some of the bands out there and Play With Fire plays the music the new bands are emulating today.
The Hailers Bring Celtic Rock to Fais Do-Do
The Hailers headline the gig at Fais Do-Do. The Los Angeles-based band has amassed a good size following for their original songs and Celtic rock sound.
Celtic Rock Meets Fleetwood Mac
What’s Celtic rock you say? It’s a lot like The Allman Brothers meets Fleetwood Mac only with a slightly European flare. Robert Mills, known as “Lord Hailer” and his best bassist and wife April Mills are central to this cool 80s-style all-original band.
“We love rock and roll and we’re not giving it up,” said Mills. “If it’s played right it will live forever.”
