LOS ANGELES – Nova Twins lived up to their band name at Zebulon. The UK duo of vocalist / guitarist Amy Love and bassist Georgia South came up on stage with a wave and then leaped right into their rap-metal showcase. Both musicians know how to play to the crowd with their eyes. Love had a mischievous stare throughout the set. South lit up the stage with a look of pure enthusiasm.

The show was their California warm-up set before they hit the Warped Tour over the weekend. It was also a time to highlight songs from their upcoming Parasites & Butterflies album that is coming out on August 29th. One song off the album is their super-charged “Piranha” that explores the current tensions throughout the world. It is a song about confronting authority, “Piranhas in the water. You’re on borrowed time. Are you terrified?” Love went up to the front of the stage during the performance of the song and lifted her left arm. With her fingers doing a clockwise motion, the crowd knew exactly what was expected, going into a frenzied mosh pit.

For “Cleopatra,” a sea of raised arms motioned towards the band. The band must have come to the conclusion that the crowd was having too much fun and it was time to enjoy the moment, as well. The duo leaped into the crowd, which parted into a circle around the two.
The band finished the night off with flair. “Drip” had the crowd jumping pogo style. “Monster” had the floor vibrating from the bass beats. As their final song “Glory” came to a conclusion, both band members raised their bass and guitar to full staff before walking off the stage to the loud cheers of the crowd.

Leading off the Marshall sponsored night was Pleasure Pill. The band came up from San Diego and brought along their own set of fans who packed the front of the stage during their set. The band’s indie rock sounds were fronted by lead singer Jonah Paz, who would stare out into the audience with a statuesque poise. There was hardly a moment where his hands weren’t wrapped around a tambourine or shakers. When their set ended, Paz was handed a bouquet of flowers. Milly’s alt rock turned the temperature up to the point where Zebulon had to turn on the air conditioning to cool down the Marshall amps. Bassist Yarden Erez and recently added drummer Alison Berry (Moonily and King Mala) could be seen playing off each other throughout the set. Lead singer Brendan Dyer ended the set by taking his guitar and swinging it like a golf club. A hole in one.
