Funk Duo Tuxedo Revives the Boogie Beat with Latest Album ‘Tuxedo III’

By JOHN DALY

Tuxedo is bringing back the boogie beat.

Funk duo Tuxedo will tout their throwback sound at the Globe Theatre in downtown Los Angeles on Friday, Aug. 23. They’re touring in support of their latest record Tuxedo III.

Tuxedo is comprised of Grammy-nominated R and B-soul recording artist Mayer Hawthorne and Grammy-nominated hip-hop producer Jake One. They recently released their latest studio album Tuxedo III via their own label Funk on Sight.

Bonding over a shared love of Chic, Parliament, and the other signs in the “greater funk Zodiac,” Tuxedo has been steadily making a name for themselves over the past five years.

Their full-length releases, including the 2015 release Tuxedo (Stones Throw Records) and the 2017 release Tuxedo II (Stones Throw Records), have earned the duo praise from a range of outlets. For more information, visit www.tuxedofunk.com.

Tuxedo is out on a 21-date North American summer headlining tour with a five-piece live band in support of Tuxedo III. The new album features the singles “The Tuxedo Way,” “Toast 2 Us” and “Vibrations” along with an array of special guests including MF DOOM, Gabriel Garzón-Montano, Parisalexa, Leven Kali, Battlecat, DāM-FunK, Gavin Turek and Benny Sings.
