Watch here: Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga gave a heart-rending performance of “Shallow” at the Academy Awards on Sunday.
The two duplicated an impromptu performance they pulled off at Lady Gaga’s Las Vegas residency last month.
“Shallow” won the Academy Award for Best Song and “A Star Is Born” got shut out of the seven other nominations it received.
The shutout is peculiar in particular because Warners is known to have a great deal of influence over the Academy Awards, guiding its favorite sons Mel Gibson, Kevin Costner and Clint Eastwood to Oscar glory.
The new ‘A Star Is Born’ carries Jon Peters’ names as one of the producers and he is the producer of the 1976 version that starred his then-wife Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
The soundtrack album that accompanies the 2018 “A Star Is Born” is far better than the Streisand version. Additionally, the latest version of the film, relates to audiences better today than the 1970s version did to audiences back then. “Shallow” has been on the charts since it was released on Sept. 27, 2018.
It’s probably no coincidence that Barbra Streisand’s random appearance at this year’s show may have been with Oscar producers’ intentions for her to introduce “A Star Is Born.” But for some peculiar reason she ended up introducing “BlackkKlansman.” The 1976 version of “A Star Is Born” earned one Oscar, also for its song “Evergreen” by she and Paul Williams.

Cooper starred in Warner’s most successful military-themed picture, “American Sniper,” released on Christmas Day in 2014. Directed by Clint Eastwood, “American Sniper” made $547 million worldwide and held the box office title for months. That picture, also, only received one Oscar, for sound editing.
