Gary Clark Jr. put on an intimate show at The Village Studios to celebrate the expansion of 88.5 FM, formerly known as KCSN radio.

The man of a thousand notes @garyclarkjr played a handful of great songs, including his new single, a cover of The Beatles “Come Together.”

Clark doesn’t travel light. In his quivver of axes he’s stocked with a few of every kind, including some cherry Gibsons and a cool Gary Clark signature called the “blak and blue.”  He also uses a Gibson that is pretty bright, it’s called TV Yellow.

Guitar tech Dave said the color suits Gary and it pops on TV.  He said the mustard color doesn’t show up as bright in photos and on the screen but it’s been a standard color since black and white TVs.

The night was abuzz with talk about the expansion of KCSN, with Sky Daniels practically dizzy with delight that his deal that was five years in the making actually went down.  KCSN, based on the campus of Cal State University Northridge struck a deal with KSBR located in Mission Viejo for shared programming and signal expansion creating a listener reach from Santa Clarita to San Clemente.  Known as the New 88.5, the stations will air KCSN’s programming, which ranges in musical taste from The Beatles to The National and everything in between.

Clark was on hand during the night to play for the press and the lucky winners of a ticket giveaway by the New 88.5 FM.  About 45 people were lucky to get up close and personal with Clark who is playing gigs with Eric Clapton at The Forum and who has a new single out, “Come Together.” His most recent album is Gary Clark Jr. Live / North America 2016.
