L.A. Story Scores on America’s Got Talent, But Check Out Other California Tryouts

By DONNA BALANCIA

While a local rock band made it to network TV on America’s Got Talent, there were other cool California acts who national viewers may have missed.

The band L.A. Story, founded by Erik Hatchett, went through the rigors all the other hundreds of tryouts experienced in downtown L.A. several months ago.  But Hatchett said that unlike the other hopefuls, he and his band went for the fun of it all.

“Our main goal is to just get to the next level of our careers and bring rock back to the LA spotlight,” Hatchett said.  “We’re not trying to be the next Green Day or One Direction, we just want to play rock music that makes people feel good and dance a bad day away!”

And OK, so his band was only shown on America’s Got Talent for about three seconds, but at least they were seen, so congrats.

Here are a few of the great talents we were lucky to meet:

Hikaru, who told us she wanted to be an example – “I want show the world they can do anything they put their mind to do,” said Hikaru, who tried to make the cut by virtue of her poetry.  She is a double-major in biochemistry and biophysics at Glendale City College.

La’ Shanea Warner from Sacramento was a lucky gal on tryout day.  She not only got to do her thing, but she had her friends, Alayna and Mariah supporting her.

Angelica Prophetic Worship Dancers lightened up the room with their beautiful faces and heavenly voices.

Camia Parker, 15, a musician in Sacramento who was preparing to sing “Take Me To Church.”  She also had the support of friends and family.

Amanda, a 17-year-old, from MLK in Riverside, who sang “I Have Nothing,” by Whitney Houston.

Friday, who with her pink and blue hair, drove six hours from Phoenix to L.A. for the tryout.  Now that’s devotion.

America’s Got Talent airs on NBC.  The Best Of Auditions for Season 11 is set to air July 6.

And to honor those talents who tried out but were not seen on NBC; for those who didn’t get to perform in front of Heidi Klum or Simon Cowell, we put together a photo gallery of some of those talented California people we met.
