It may seem to be a famous hit song today, but watch the first time the Foo Fighters ever play “The Sky Is a Neighborhood” on video right here.

The debut of one of the more recent Foo Fighters hits occurred on stage in San Francisco at the Fillmore at Sammy Hagar’s Acoustic-For-A-Cure show in May of 2017.

Dave Grohl takes an almost nervous stance as he introduces the song for the first time. He admitted it was on the drive to the venue he and the band decided to perform the tune.

“On the way up here I thought, I thought we’d play a new song, man,” Grohl tells the crowd. “We never played this song in front of anybody. It’s called ‘The Sky Is a Neighborhood.'”

The band went on to play the song on the Saturday Night Live Christmas episode, 2017, with a lot more electricity than the first time around.

On Jan. 16, 2019, Foo Fighters will take part in “I Am the Highway: A Tribute to Chris Cornell,” which takes place at The Forum in Los Angeles.

Members of Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog, are expected to play and there will be performances by Metallica and Ryan Adams. Jimmy Kimmel hosts.
