NEW PETTY SONG: Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers Drop Single ‘Gainesville’

Single Released Ahead of ‘American Treasure’

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have dropped the previously unreleased song “Gainesville” off the upcoming new box set An American Treasure, due Sept. 28.

It’s no secret that Gainesville has a special place in Petty’s heart as that’s where he grew up — and where his music all started.

Gainesville” is the latest track to be revealed from the upcoming, career-spanning Tom Petty box set An American Treasure. The never-before released song was recorded in 1998 during Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers’ Echo sessions. 

In recent news, Petty will be getting a park named after him in Gainesville, according to The Gainesville Sun. The Northeast Park located at 400 NE 16th Ave., will be renamed in honor of Petty on his birthday, Oct. 20.
