KAABOO Day 2 brought the energy that rocked the thousands on hand, with the Dave Matthews Band, Squeeze, Chevy Metal and Bryan Adams adding a touch of nostalgia.

Headliner Matthews captured the crowd with his high energy and jovial stage presence. All ages were on hand as people crowded around the Sunset Cliffs stage. Matthews was in a great mood as usual, and engaged the crowd with many of the band’s hits as well as covers by Peter Gabriel and the Steve Miller Band.

Badflower kicked off the festivities at KAABOO Day 2. Lead singer, Josh Katz, made it a point to thank the crowd for waking up early to attend their set. And even though the crowd was understandably small, there was a strong core of very loyal fans in the audience that sang along with glee.

Switchfoot took the Sunset Cliffs stage by swarm clearly excited to be playing in their home town. Jon Foreman noted that they had just finished playing in Mexico City the night before and that he was happy to interact with the Del Mar crowd, openly admitting that his Spanish speaking skills were a little shaky. Foreman went into the crowd several times to shake hands and to stand among the excited fans. Read the interview here.

Bryan Adams opened up his memory-evoking set with “Somebody,” and “Kids Want To Rock” and satisfied the longtime fans on hand with his well-known radio hits.

Chevy Metal never fails to disappoint as the Foo Fighters’ drummer Taylor Hawkins steps out from behind the kit to rev up the audience with his Van Halen “cover band” project. Hawkins dressed in tight black, camo leggings (either Spanx or Lululemon!) and a blue, granny sunhat and ran up and down the Amplify stage. Chevy Metal’s set was a special perk for the festival-goers who upgraded their concert experience with the Amplify Escape experience. This time, the band didn’t stick to Van Halen tunes, but also band rocked covers by Jane’s Addiction, Queen and The Kinks.

One Republic drew a huge crowd to the Sunset Cliffs Stage and delivered a high-energy set.

Squeeze is still a dapper icon of the 1980s, as lead singer, Glenn Tillbrook, looked very spiffy in green satin shorts and matching vest, an appropriate outfit for the warm September evening. The band thrilled the crowd with their biggest hits: “Footprints,” “Hourglass,” “Pulling Mussels From a Shell,” “Annie Get Your Gun,” “Up a Junction,” and, of course, “Tempted.”
