Photo Gallery: Bikini Kill Revives Riot Grrrl Spirit with Reunion at Hollywood Palladium

Bikini Kill reunited at The Hollywood Palladium last night for their first show in more than 20 years to kick off their reunion tour.

Check out our photo gallery of hi-res images by music photographer Steve Rose.

The women who were responsible for the riot grrrl movement brought down the house for a show that had most of the attendees singing along with every word. As most of those words have to do with subjects that had until 1990 been taboo, it’s good to see these punkers haven’t lost their feminist power.

[ngg src=”galleries” ids=”5″ display=”basic_thumbnail”]“It’s like a time machine, ‘Do you believe in life after love?'” said Kathleen Hanna who did her best imitation of Cher. “That’s like the other song by Cher, ‘If I could turn back time,’ But I wouldn’t turn back time because I’m happy to be right here right now.”

Kathleen Hanna, Kathi Wilcox, Tobi Vail, and new band member Erica Dawn Lyle kept the audience engaged, cracking jokes and tearing through a 27-song set with two encores.

Alice Bag opened, and was seen backstage enjoying herself with fellow female punkers Teri Gender Bender from Le Butcherettes and Lysa Flores.

Given there had been issues with ticketing, and shows were added to the tour to accommodate demand, we found it odd that last-minute tickets were available for $20 (including fees) through StubHub.
