New Attitude, New Acts: Echo Park Rising 2018 Goes ‘Solo’

By JOHN DALY

It’s a breakout year at Echo Park Rising music fest, as some local favorites try out new material and new solo acts.

The annual festival that encompasses Echo Park venues, businesses — and attitude — runs through Sunday, Aug. 19.

Shannon Shaw of Shannon and The Clams, Theresa from Warpaint and Bardo Martinez of Chicano Batman are headliners at Echo Park Rising 2018 and they get support from some popular Los Angeles music names.

Shaw, who captivates audiences as the lead singer in retro 60s-style band Shannon and The Clams, is truly on her own.  Her debut solo album is called Shannon In Nashville.

Martinez, who leads Bardo Martinez and The Doves, says he wrote his latest single for his wife.

“I’m turning the knobs and rocking the switches and I have a lot of fun doing those things,” said Martinez, whose latest has him in the middle of synth sound. “I got an obsession with analog synthesizers and I make sure the kick and the bass are connected. I’ve been writing songs for a long time, many of which you’ve heard through Chicano Batman.”
