Brad Cox steps back into the spotlight with “Unbreakable,” his first solo EP since 2016. After 10 years behind the scenes writing and producing for major artists, the resilient rock producer‑singer‑songwriter has teamed with an impressive group of musicians on the latest collection, set for an Oct. 9 release.
“Unbreakable” includes a standout contribution from Jon Bon Jovi, who co‑wrote the track “Tom Petty” with longtime collaborator Billy Falcon and Bones Owens.
Cox spent the last 10 years navigating personal challenges which shaped both the new EP’s emotional core and its title. Cox wrote five of the six tracks and produced “Unbreakable,” channeling resilience, clarity, and a renewed sense of purpose.
“No matter what hardships you go through in life, you should never give up on yourself, and you should never give up on love,” said Cox, who splits his time between Atlanta and North Myrtle Beach, S.C. “Through all the crap life throws at you, stay strong, grow stronger, and show the world that you’re unbreakable.”
Cox opens “Unbreakable” with “Fall,” a high‑energy jolt co‑written with Falcon about taking leaps toward what — or who — you know is right. Cox sings and plays guitar, bass, percussion, and keyboards on the EP.
His voice surges with urgency on “Broken,” a track fueled by jagged guitars from Cox, Mark Dannells, and Chris Blackwell, with Joe Lee delivering thunderous drums. The song explores relationships where passion and conflict collide — and the perseverance required to make them work.
The power‑pop ballad “Be There” was originally written for One Direction by Cox, GRAMMY®‑nominated producer‑songwriter Kendrick Dean, Anoop Desai (American Idol), Big Mike, and Anthony Franks. Cox recorded it himself after years of returning to the melody. It’s the second single released from the EP.
On “Empty Pockets,” Cox critiques the hollow chase for material validation amplified by social media, contrasting it with the lasting wealth found in meaningful relationships.
While working on the EP, Falcon brought Cox “Tom Petty,” a song rich with metaphor and written by Bon Jovi, Falcon, and Owens. As a lifelong fan of both Petty and Bon Jovi, Cox immediately connected with the track.
“The song has so many great metaphors in it,” Cox said. “You’re searching for someone that no longer exists except in spirit and in words. I think we are all searching for Tom Petty in a way.”
Last month, Cox offered the first preview with “Girl Like You,” the infectious pop‑rock EP closer about finding acceptance as an outsider. A sober vegan and fitness‑and‑wellness devotee, Cox wrote the single about meeting someone who embraced him for his differences.
