DEL MAR — Wu-Tang Clan, Snoop Dogg and Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul conquered the main stage at KAABOO before thousands on opening day in San Diego County. The annual festival runs through Sunday.
Wu-Tang, Snoop and Little Steven were featured on the USAA Grandview stage. Earlier action saw a range of musicians including Silversun Pickups, REO Speedwagon, Kings of Leon, Vintage Trouble, Plain White Ts and others.
The Friday lineup was enough to give any Hip Hop and Americana fan their fill, but Saturday promised a lineup including Dave Matthews Band, Tig Notaro, The Artisanals, Black-Eyed Peas and Sublime with Rome.
In the meantime, the photogs had to dry themselves off during the Wu-Tang set after getting doused twice from the stage by the throwback band. Silversun Pickups sounded like their stellar selves with an energetic set. Vintage Trouble players took advantage of the Del Mar scene and went crowd-surfing and survived despite some accidental mishandling, no harm done.
Little Steven’s set was nothing short of dynamic, with his three amazing backup singers and a horn section that wouldn’t quit.
