Sex Symbol Tom Jones Hospitalized, Postpones Concerts

Tom Jones has come down with a bacterial infection and is in the hospital, forcing the enduring sex symbol to postpone some U.K. concert dates.

“It is with regret that we have to postpone Tom Jones’ performance at Chester Racecourse this evening,” it was posted on the singer’s official Twitter account. “This show will be rescheduled for Sunday, 21st August. All tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled date. If you are unable to attend the rescheduled date, refunds will be available at point of purchase.”

Jones also postponed the show the night before at Stansted Park on Wednesday, July 18.

“Sir Tom Jones has a bacterial infection for which he is being treated in hospital,” the statement continued. “The condition is being well managed and we are hoping for a speedy recovery. He is extremely sorry and disappointed not ot be able to perform tonight, and sincerely apologises for inconveniences caused to the audience and all those who are involved inthe event. ”

Wildly Popular Since the 1960s

The 78-year-old Jones, who has been a wildly popular singer since the 1960s for his blue-eyed soul style and gyrating dance moves, has represented raw seduction since he was introduced to the public. The beloved Wales-born superstar had a hit TV show on ABC from 1969-1971 called This Is Tom Jones that earned him a devoted following of millions of fans and robust attention in the U.S.

Jones has had many hit songs but is probably most well known for the early songs “It’s Not Unusual” and “She’s a Lady.” Women were known to throw undergarments at him when he performed on stage. He was knighted in 2009 by Queen Elizabeth II for his service to music.

He has also kept up to date by working with young musicians and musicians of different genres. In 1999 he scored a hit with “Sex Bomb” off the album Tom Jones Reload. He released a single in 2012 produced by Jack White called “Evil.” He opened for Morrissey’s tour in 2014. His wife, Linda, passed away in 2016. He played the Greek in LA last May.

Apologies and Bravery

“I am so sorry for cancelling last nights show in Chichester, it’s the worse feeling having to let down everyone who was coming as well as everyone who is involved with the event,” it was posted on his Twitter. “I know many of you travel considerable distances and make plans with friends and family that take a lot of effort, and it is so disappointing when things don’t go right.

“Although I can’t perform again tonight at Chester Racecourse, the good news is that we can get another date in Chester on Aust 12, so hopefully I will see you there. Until then, a sincere thank you for your support and understanding.”
