‘Buckaroo Banzai’ Was Rock Star and Surgeon But Real Hero Healthcare Workers Need Help

Buckaroo Banzai was fictitious but real healthcare workers need donations

Donations Needed at Hospitals Across the United States

By DONNA BALANCIA

Actor Peter Weller portrayed the first rock star and healthcare worker to come on the scene as brain surgeon-rocker Dr. Buckaroo Banzai in the cult film “The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension!” But the rock stars of today are the real healthcare workers fighting COVID-19 and they need help.

Healthcare workers in hospital emergency rooms across the United States are facing a tougher enemy than the character Dr. Banzai ever did, and they’re asking the public for help.

Hospitals are experiencing severe lack of personal protective equipment and massive shortages of gloves and masks. While many point out hospital administration money mismanagement is to blame, citizens can step up to help those nurses, doctors and med techs on the front lines with direct donations of needed items.

In major cities like Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Houston and Miami, as well as smaller towns, hospitals are putting out urgent requests for gloves, masks, goggles and protective gear. And while there are many charities asking for donations, one of the surest ways to get the people on the front lines what they need is by direct delivery of supplies.

To donate protective supplies needed, check out this website Get Us PPE, which shows an interactive map of hospitals across the US where you can send protective gear.

One of the groups organizing people to send goods is My Hero Box, which encourages people to gather unused items, box them up and send to hospitals on the #GetUsPPE map.

Follow the instructions to help out. Stay safe and while in social distancing mode one of our picks for movies to watch is “Buckaroo Banzai,” one of the most underrated sci-fi movies of our day, featuring Weller, John Lithgow, Ellen Barkin and Jeff Goldblum.
