Miley Cyrus, Dennis Quaid and Gary Clark Jr. joined Robby Krieger to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Doors album Morrison Hotel at The Sunset Marquis.

Morrison Hotel, which turns 50 today, marked a turning point in Rock N Roll and the iconic cover photo was taken by photographer Henry Diltz, co-owner of Morrison Hotel Gallery inside The Sunset Marquis hotel.

Cyrus, who looked chic in a form-fitting black dress, gave a performance of “Roadhouse Blues” that she posted to her Instagram page:

She and producer Andrew Watt also covered “Back Door Man,” The Struts performed “Riders on The Storm” and Dennis Quaid brought the excitement with his version of “L.A. Woman.” (Read our Review of Dennis Quaid and The Sharks here).

Morrison Hotel Gallery also celebrated its 20-year anniversary with the opening of a new photography exhibit in the gallery located inside the hotel’s lobby. On public view through February 23, the exhibition leans heavily on rare outtakes from photographer and co-founder of the gallery, Diltz’s impromptu Morrison Hotel session.

For the cover the of the album, Diltz recalls arriving at the transient Morrison Hotel with The Doors only to be denied photographic permission by a desk clerk who stepped away for a few minutes enabling the mischief that created one of the most prolific portraits in music history.

A half-century after the release of Morrison Hotel, rockers still revel in the legacy of The Doors’ Morrison Hotel.
