Shirley Manson to Hit the Stage Tonight

Surprise guest Karen O, Carrie Brownstein and Best Coast came out to show support at the third annual Girlschool at the Bootleg.
Karen O visited at the invite of Kristin Kontrol of the Dum Dum girls, who leads a pack of adorable youngsters known as the Girlschool Choir. The Girlschool Choir, complete with 15 or so members ranging in ages 4 to 15 impressed the adoring crowd.
But established musicians like rapper Desi Mo, Boyfriend, Drum and Lace and Cuesta Loeb brought musical diversity to the Bootleg stages.

Brownstein and poet Morgan Parker kicked off the three-day fest with a conversation on stage on the stage called “Bra Factory,” Desi Mo and rapping crew opened the musical performances on the “Banana Stage,” and electro-vocal musician Drum and Lace graced the larger “Cherry Stage.”
One of the most impressive performances of the night was by Mereba, whose dulcit tones much in the style of Shade meets Grace Slick wowed the thick crowd of women — and men.
Boyfriend, who calls her multi-costumed performance “Rap Caberet,” brought levity and luridity to the Cherry Stage. She emerged in a white wedding gown with a veil and curlers in her hair, and stripping down to undergarments and her microphone. Boyfriend’s lyrics are crude but hysterically funny as she touts her veiled threats to some unknown obnoxious men and puffs up her macho but beautiful bravado. Meanwhile, as they say, the kid musicians upstaged their professional counterparts, with the Girlschool Choir leaving a wake of adoring fans.
During the rest of weekend, Moon Honey, Lauren Ruth Ward and punk superstar Shirley Manson will take the stage.
