Mike McCready gave an impromptu performance as Pearl Jam revealed some sounds off the upcoming album Gigaton.
Pearl Jam has postponed the tour that was supposed to kick off this week, but that has not stopped McCready from broadcasting at a special location.
“Hey everybody out there be safe, this is Mike McCready, I’m sitting in the bathroom where I do my best work, hey I do have Crohn’s,” he said. “So I’m just going to play a little something for you and see if it works out.”
As for staying home, McCready recommended a few fun things to catch up on.
“Also saw a great movie, the ‘Bob Dylan Rolling Thunder Review,’ incredible version of ‘Hurricane’ in that, been reading some (Charles) Beaudelaire poetry and the Bruce Springsteen biography. Just layin’ low with the family and waiting for this thing to blow over.”
The band has been giving sneak peeks into the new album Gigaton.
Pearl Jam releases the 11th studio album, Gigaton, on March 27 here in the United States. It’s the first studio album since Lightning Bolt, produced by Josh Evans and the band.
McCready said making the record was a long journey and he had some appropriate words to say.
“It was emotionally dark and confusing at times but also an exciting and experimental road map to musical redemption,” McCready said. “Collaborating with my bandmates on Gigaon ultimately gave me greater love, awareness and knowledge of the need for human connection in these times.”
