The debut album for New York punk band Surfbort, called Friendship Music, will drop on Oct. 26. So to celebrate, Surfbort put on a wild “pre-record release” show in DTLA with plenty of new music as well as some “golden oldies.”
The friendliest punkers on the planet clearly had a ball, keeping the joint hopping as can be seen from the photo gallery of Anthony Mehlhaff’s excellent images put together here.
Surfbort: The Popularity Kids
Surfbort has become pretty popular on the party circuit over the last year or so, but the band has been doing the work behind the scenes with smart songs and wryly humorous videos. Their music videos like “Trash,” and “Les Be in Love” are a fun watch, and the newest vids, “Slushy” and “Trashworld” definitely take things a step further. The new single off the 17-track Friendship Music is a hot-tempered number called “Pretty Little Fucker.” Anger issues much?
Surfbort and Special Guests
The lovable punk outfit is their own gang with Dani Miller on vocals, David Head and Alex Kilgore on guitar and Sean Powell on drums. But like the name of the new album, they’re all about friends and music. You’ll find some notable pals and musicians in the Surfbort videos, and they also like to share the stage. On hand the other night were a few special guests including Amy Taylor from the brilliant Aussie band, Amyl and the Sniffers, who got up and joined in on “Hideaway.”
Surfbort: Freeway Surfing a U.S. Tour
Surfbort will spread their joy across our great nation with an extensive tour that kicks off on Oct. 27 at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn. The band then swoops across the country with stops in Kansas City, Salt Lake City, Vancouver, Seattle and Portland before returning to California, the band’s second home.
Surfbort Calls California A Second Home
For California, Surfbort plays the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco on Nov. 9, The Glass House in Pomona on Nov. 10, Marty’s on Newport on Nov. 11, The Regent in LA on Nov. 12 and House of Blues San Diego on Nov. 13. The tour wraps on Nov. 24 in Atlanta.
